Ramadan begins, June 18, and since nothing says "Holy month of hunger" quite like an acrostic, read on for some fun fasting facts. R is for Ramadan, the month of fasting for 1.6 billion Muslims around the world. Fasting means no food or drink between sunrise and sunset.

Reacquainting a younger generation of Muslims to Ramadan | Toronto Star

Christians have Christmas. Jews have Hanukkah. Christmas trees, a pretty menorah and lots of presents. What do Muslims have? Ramadan, the month of fasting. Thirty days of starvation, now shut up and eat a date. How do you sell a month of hunger and thirst to kids? Children are not expected to fast.

    The 'Samosas and Maple Syrup' column began running regularly in the Toronto Star in September 2015. However, my very first column appeared earlier, in January 2015 ... when I gave my 7 year old son The Talk.
