Fear can be a friend when chasing your dream: Samosas and Maple Syrup | Toronto Star

I've been on an unpaid leave of absence since September and the reality is different than what I expected. I thought I would become a better version of myself - Uzma 2.0, with time to devote to writing, travel, family. So far, the only thing I have managed to do is write, every day.

Help - my son wants a cellphone: Jalaluddin | Toronto Star

My son wants a cellphone. He's 12. How did I get here so fast? I was 20 years old when I got my first cellphone. Until then, I was getting by just fine with prepaid public telephone cards. All my friends had cellphones (this was around 1999) and I was, as usual, the last holdout.

    What's this?

    The 'Samosas and Maple Syrup' column began running regularly in the Toronto Star in September 2015. However, my very first column appeared earlier, in January 2015 ... when I gave my 7 year old son The Talk.
